Perceptions are truths. Truths are not always facts.* Green oranges are, in fact, ripe. The green skin is naturally pumped full with chlorophyll and remains in the fruit until it’s exposed to the cold; the chlorophyll dies off and the orange color emerges. Because oranges can remain green due to warm weather, in the US, some are dyed with Cirtus Red No. 2 to meet consumer expectations. There’s no requirement to label a dyed orange.
